I have been involved in martial arts my entire life, but when I came out, I was no longer welcome due to a climate of extreme intolerance. Goin’ Down Swinging (2024) is inspired by my ongoing social practice, Queer Fight Club, where I invite Queer folks to learn how to kickbox within a community centered on the physical expression of our rage. This installation is about that rage and the need for an outlet, as well as safety, for Queer communities. Viewers are invited to enter the ring and connect with our community while being elevated into performance.
